      Hi Dennis,

I am related to the Atkin family through marriage on my grandfather's (George Stearns) side. His mother was born in England (Jane Jefferies)and Jane's father Henry Jefferies married Martha Atkin in 1870. I have some photos of Jane Jefferies that I plan on scanning into the computer and posting to my Mara family tree. I will label everyone in case you are also related to anyone in the photos.

Feel free to contact me if you need any of the dates from my family tree that you can't see online.

Hello Dennis, I am descended also from Martin Atkin, who is my great-great paternal grandfather. His parents were Robert Adkin (1764-1827) and Ann Atkin(perhaps maiden name of Ann Kemp) (1768-1851) Martin's spouse was Mary Jackson (1804-1881)Their daughter, Martha(1845-1923) is my great-grandmother. Her daughter,Jane(1874-1960) is my grandmother.

I have no information back from Robert Adkin and Mary Moor, other than their names.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

And talking of deaths I think you have the wrong one for Mary nee Jackson, as there is a burial of a Mary Atkin, aged 55, 24 July 1860 in Spilsby. Martin seems to have the condition of (an extremely badly written) widower on the 1861 census. And it clearly says widower on the 1871 census.

Using FreeBMD in conjunction with the census, you should be able to find most of the marriages that took place. The women are perhaps a little more difficult to find on the census after they've married. However I think that Martha (born c1845) married Henry Jefferies in 1870 before they moved to Streatham in 1871.

I've spent about an hour trying to find Ann, Jane, and Elizabeth on the census after they've left home but without success. Mary Ann is still living at home in 1871, but can't find her after that. Might have more success with them once the Spilsby district marriages 1851-1870 get transcribed to the Lincolnshire 1837+ Marriage Index. (That's a volunteer project so I'd check back in about three, then six, months time.)
